It was just supposed to be an interview.
It was just supposed to be one morning.
It was just supposed to be a memory...
How did it end up like this?

Sensitive and melodramatic Emmett Yang has had enough of the dating world. Enter Joe Kaminski, former quarterback--driven, determined, recently out of the closet--and knows exactly who he wants. That just happens to be Emmett.

Emmett is convinced that their chance meeting is just a one-time thing: a memory to be cherished. He doesn't think that Joe would ever really want to be with him. After all, he's...him, and Joe is Joe. He's nowhere near Joe's nebula, and there are rules and norms and mores to be followed about this sort of situation, none of which end with Joe and him together.

But can the former quarterback show Emmett that there are no rules in love?

Review
I really enjoy books by Frey Ortega there is a ton of heart and soul inside the pages, and this book is no exception.  Play by the Rules is a fast-paced love story I really liked reading.
This book has the first-person narrative while it is not my favorite narrative per say, in this book I liked it very much.
Emmett, he is very careful online. About sharing his personal information with people. But he broke the rule with one guy.  The guy, in turn, broke his heart. He has a really needy personality. He thinks he needs to keep that part of himself hidden away.
25 years old and a virgin. Who has never had a boyfriend. He has come out. He is sensitive and lonely. He wants a romantic love. But he is very guarded. Has a great sense of humor. Very hard on himself. He expects a lot out of himself. Writer, editor, homebody.
Joe, star quarterback. Retiring at age 35. Set for life. The paper that Emmett works for is doing a human-interest story on him. He is a bachelor. Hunky and has recently come out.  He requested someone with Emmett’s qualifications. For the interview.  He wants someone happy, positive, and someone who will be just good to talk too.
Overall this is a sweet story. I loved that. This is about two men finding themselves and each other. Sometimes love can sneak up on you and these two certainly deserve it.
This is a story I will have on the keeper shelf, and take out when I want to experience sweet pure true love.
