Blackwater, Book 5

River knows all about the uglier side of life and has the inner demons as a constant reminder. He knows damn well he’s damaged goods, but getting that through Jeanette Munroe’s pretty head seems to be an act in futility. River’s managed to keep his relationship with Jeanette purely platonic. She deserves a man who is whole, inside and out.

Jeanette has been secretly crazy about her best friend River since high school. She’s always dreamed of being swept up into his strong, capable arms and having him profess his undying love to her. Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem to realize she’s even a woman. When Jeanette is mugged and ends up with a mild concussion, River comes riding to her rescue. There’s finally a chance to get up close and personal with the big cutie—and she’ll darn well grab it will both hands.

River’s Redemption by author Anne Rainey is the fifth book in the Blackwater series. This series just keeps getting better and better. I love the connection these characters have. I also love the friendship they have.  The storyline is both believable and runs at a great pace.
River has learned to bury his happiness down deep so no one, not even he can see it.  His foster father had put on a show for the outside world. Secretly he abused River. River still has nightmares about it. His adoptive parents and brothers mean the world to him along with his twin Reilly.
Jeanette has been River’s closest friend since high school. She loves River, but he only sees her as a friend. That is until the day she gives up on him. She is working on her law degree.
Jeanette gives as good as she gets. She is not a doormat I loved that about her.
River learns to miss what he has always had when she decides she has to move on.
Both characters grow in this book.  They learn to trust and that love can make you stronger.
I cannot wait for more from this series. I loved this story and all the characters. I want more!!
