When ex-slave Zall is asked to be Captain Teslan’s cabin boy, he learns sometimes you have to bend your rules to offer your heart.
Zall is settling in on the ship Chalice chose for him. Even though he’s not a soldier, he’s learning from them and developing his own skills. When the ship changes captains, Zall has to decide if he’d rather keep his independence or offer himself to a man who might be everything he’s ever wanted…or his biggest mistake.
Danner Teslan has agreed to investigate a possible smuggling ring on a military ship. However, when he arrives and meets Zall, he’s convinced the ex-slave is his other half. Zall is not interested in becoming any man’s property and Danner has to decide whether he’s willing to give another person the freedom to destroy his heart.

Review
Zall is enjoying freedom for the first time in his life. He is seeing new places and learning new things and he couldn’t be happier. Then Danner enters his world. He is attracted but he is independent for the first time in his life. Is he ready for what Danner means to his footloose and fancy free new life? Danner has finally met his match. But his match doesn’t want him. Can he convince the man that has captured his heart he can be more than Zall’s Captain? Amber Kell wants to give him that chance in the third installment of her Planetary Submissives series.
While you can read this as a standalone, you will better appreciate Zall’s struggle if you have read previous stories in this series. I enjoyed Zall and Danner. Both wanted something lasting but couldn’t figure out how to get it. Danner didn’t have the history of pain Zall did but loneliness can be just as devastating which Danner felt in abundance. I enjoyed seeing Danner give Zall the space to see that he was different. The time to see being with him would limit but not ground him. Ms. Kell does a wonderful job of laying out Zall’s and Danner’s fears and then methodically demolishing each one. This story is a nice quick read and well worth your time.
