As a freshman both in love and in college, sometimes there are painful lessons to be learned.

Excited to begin his first year of college, Brett Bridgeworth has just one problem: he sucks at math. Luckily there’s the sensual and mysterious math tutor, Jeremy Price, to help him out. It isn't long before Jeremy is tutoring Brett in more than just pie charts, but it isn’t until they split up that Brett discovers Jeremy’s twisted, obsessive side.

Sam Hawthorne is two years ahead of Brett, and they share a strong mutual attraction. When Brett breaks it off with Jeremy and gets involved with Sam, disturbing things start happening. It soon becomes obvious that Jeremy isn't willing to let Brett go without a fight.

Review

Painful Lessons by S.C. Wynne is a college coming into your own story. Brett is a wide eyed freshman in college. He really just wants a boy to love him and to get good grades. He comes from money but does not flaunt it. He is an all around good guy. He meets his soon to be stalker/boyfriend because he needs a math tutor. He think the possessive attitude is cute until he finds out he is not the one and only in his life. Then when he tries to break it off, things go strange.
Sam is two years a head of Brett. He would like for them to be more than friends but Brett met someone else first. They remain friends and close. When Brett becomes free again they try a relationship. But will the past boyfriend make the new relationship impossible for Brett and Sam?
I liked how Brett learned to come into his own in this story. He grew as a character and really found his footing. Sam is a great person, and a great friend. He really is the perfect one to bring Brett out of his own head.
This book does have scenes that some readers might not be comfortable with. But really those scenes are essential in the telling of this story.
When you want a deeply passionate, emotional read this is the one to pick up.
