The first moment they lay eyes on her on the deck of the cruise ship Max Tanner and Tony Delvecchio are inexorably drawn to Cheri Ambrose. Born of The Gifted, humans possessed of incredible magic, Cheri was sent to New York to fulfill an ancient prophecy, to meet her two destined mates.
Cheri doesn’t have much hope that Max and Tony will fall in love with her. She’s already seen how a lot of people treat plus-sized women, but she can’t help feeling stung when they think she's put a spell on them to compel their attraction—nevermind that it would be in violation of one of two sacred laws.
Two things make Max and Tony rethink their suspicions: they discover they have magic inside of them, too. And there are two other men of power on the ship—men who are determined to do whatever it takes to prevent the prophecy from coming true.

Review
One of my favorite authors has a brand new series and I could not wait to get my hands on a copy. And I can honestly say that I was not disappointed with Passions Awakening the first in Cara Covington’s The Gifted series.
Cheri is different and knows it. She is tasked with leaving her world to help improve ours. Her knowledge of our world is gleaned from television and she quickly learns just how wrong her lessons were. But she is finding her footing and adores the charges within her care. She loves nurturing young minds but when she finds a ticket for a cruise on the last day of school, she knows her life is about to change yet again. I loved how feminine Cheri felt. She was strong in ways that seem to be unappreciated in today’s world and Ms. Covington celebrated that within Cheri. And Max and Tony appreciated the curvy woman even as they were uncomfortable with the feelings she generates within them both and so quickly as well.
Max and Tony are friends and have been friends throughout their entire lives. I loved the sense of history that brought to these characters. They understood each other in ways that only come with time. And when Cheri entered their lives she added to the relationship. They were uncomfortable but willing to work through it. I appreciated that once they got beyond their mad they were able to look at the big picture and appreciate what they were gaining.
This story was well written and the characters were well developed. They felt real and believable even as the fell in love and fought evil. I cannot wait to see what Ms. Covington has in store for next in this series.
