Jacen is living a lie in a relationship with someone he can't fully love. He's moved away from the one man meant for him, Kayne. Distance doesn't help, though, because his heart can't forget.

Teenage mistakes set Kayne's future, so, with one last kiss goodbye, he's let the man who held his heart--his best friend's younger brother--walk away. Time doesn't heal all wounds. It just confuses matters, especially when Kayne has a young son and soon-to-be ex-wife.

Then Jacen comes home. He's been both physically and mentally abused by his ex-boyfriend. Kayne needs to help find out just who is trying to destroy Jacen's life. Who's to blame--the man responsible for beating Jacen up or Kayne's very own ex, who has hated Jacen since they were teenagers when she'd found out Jacen held Kayne's heart?

Will the mystery enemy destroy them or bring them closer?

Review
One Last Kiss Goodbye is the second book in the Hidden Hearts series by author N.J. Neilsen. This book should be read in order. They build on each other.
For me this book was not as good at the first one. Had some let downs for me. I still feel there is great character connection, but lots of things get glossed over fairly quickly. My thoughts are just do not introduce elements you do not wish to expand on. But still it is a good real full of romance and face paced action.
Jacen I really was dying to meet him. He had always had a crush on Kayne. He is really a smart guy skipped grades in school. Very much a loner type of person. He ends up being in an abusive both mentally and physically relationship. He wants to handle it all on his own, but soon learns he needs family and friends even if he doesn't want their help. I liked his independence. He is really a strong character with lots of personality.
Kayne has been really what I would call a door mat for the past seven years. Staying with a woman who has been cheating on him, tricked him into having sex with her, and blackmailing him into marriage. He does love his son Macen. So much so he gave his son a name that is a combination of Jacen and his best friend Micah's name. Kayne has never forgotten Jacen, and the one kiss they shared a long time ago. He loves Jacen, he just wants to let Jacen spread his wings. Hopefully fly back to him one day too.
Over all these guys really have a rough time in this book. There are stalkers, violence, and a good dose of miss understandings that really keep them apart. Everything is solved in the end, and true love pro vales. This is a sweet romance with lots of potential for more in the future.
