Alysia Renaldo’s life was fairly typical and without troubles until the day a hurricane hit her family home in Miami. The storm and the aftermath would forever change her life.

Kendall Cerda had been waiting for the moment he would see Alysia again. He didn't count on it coming with a threat to her life and safety. It will be up to him to protect Alysia and put a stop to those who would take her from him.

They will need to work together if they have a chance of survival when the danger of a fanatic extremist group comes for Alysia. Navigating Aly’s feelings for Kendall will complicate things. Will they make it through the obstacles together or will their lives together be brief?

Aly is more than she ever knew. She has powers unknown to her but known to someone else. Kendall knows who and what Aly is but can he convince her to trust in him? Or will the threat to them both take her before Kendall earns her love and her trust? Kendall’s Promise by Cecile Tellier is first in The Magus of Miami series. Aly’s family has sheltered her and hidden much from her. While it was done with love it has left her unprotected as others fight to control who and what she is. Kendall has always loved Aly. And now that she has started college, he has honored the promise made to her father. But he isn’t the only one who wants her. Ms. Tellier did a good job of showing Aly’s struggle to accept just how much has been hidden from her. Aly has been loved but not respected. With Kendall she gains respect even as she struggles to accept her new reality. She wants to be loved for who she is not because of some fated meeting. And Aly fights not only her growing feelings but also the danger surrounding her. I loved Kendall in this story. He is young but determined to protect not only Aly but also his little family. They know they are hunted and have learned to depend and support each other. Ms. Tellier does a wonderful job of slipping Aly into their little family even as they fight the danger and growing love. This was my first time reading Ms. Tellier’s work and I enjoyed it. I am looking forward to seeing where she will take us in this world of the Magus.
