Elves are from Venus, wolf shifters from Mars. Vampires come from Saturn. Humans live on Earth... and one man is king of them all...and it sucks to be the king.
There have been a lot of changes in Nicky’s life recently. Cooper stands by his side as his lover and his champion and Nicky is learning what it means to be king of the galaxy. And as long as he has Cooper, he knows there is nothing he can’t face.
Life had been full of changes for Cooper Walsh since he claimed Nicky as his own. Flying through the stars as the consort of a king seems insignificant compared to the changes he is seeing within himself both physically and mentally.
But not everyone is happy that Nicky has become king. Some want the throne for themselves, and some want Nicky. When the king’s flagship is attacked, Cooper finds there is more to his new life than simply being the new king’s consort. He can only hope that Nicky will still want him as he becomes something not seen in the galaxy in centuries…but first he has to find Nicky, and that might not be so easy when everyone around him believes Nicky is dead.
Review of book:
To Keep A King picks up where the first story in the trilogy left off, and keeps the good times rolling with its fast paced plot and well developed characters. If you haven't read the first book in the series, To Take A King, then I would highly recommend that you do so.. You'll follow along okay if you choose not to, however I think you'll lose a lot of the nuances without the backstory.
When we last saw Nicky, he was the new King of the Universe, and Cooper Walsh his royal consort. Soon after the opening, shots are fired across the bow of the royal cruiser, and Nicky is forced to hit the ground running in the field of politics and negotiation. This sets off a series of events that leave no one unchanged – some undergoing a more physical transformation (Cooper) than others. I loved it! The plot was jam packed with villains you can't help but hate, males that make your heart go thump, and enough action to get your blood pumping.
Stormy Glennwrites amazing characters that you become invested in very quickly. I was sucked right back in to the Venusian world, and I wouldn't have it any other way. During Nicky’s elaborate kidnapping, I found that every time he voiced his conviction that he was about to die, I wanted to give him a hug and then go kick the collective asses of his abductors on his behalf. Although his super power wasn't tied to the size of his muscles, his strength of spirit was just as formidable. It was gratifying to see that he didn't cry and whine his way through his capture, and I quickly grew to have a healthy respect for him. He might have had moments of despair, but deep down I think he knew that Cooper, Baylor, and Turlock wouldn't rest until he was safe.
Did I mention there was action? The author once again does a phenomenal job of incorporating sex into the story in such a way that it enhances, rather than detracts, and you'll need ice water on hand to douse the flames. Once again, Ms. Glenn has an outstanding story on her hands with To Keep A King - I'm looking forward to reading the final installment in the trilogy.
