James had his fill of domineering behavior in his last relationship, so he immediately shies away when he meets Hikaru, who makes his interest aggressively clear from the start. While James can’t deny that he wants Hikaru, he can’t push past his own issues and relax around him. Hikaru isn’t going to take no for an answer because he can see the undeniable desire in James’ eyes. An erotic encounter after work confirms that they both want the same thing and know exactly how to give it to each other. When Hikaru meets—and is threatened by—James’ ex-boyfriend, he begins to understand why James can’t open up completely. Now his priority is not only protecting James, but also showing him how fulfilling complete surrender can be…with the right person.

James and Hikaru are an interesting couple.  James was so uncomfortable with just how fast Hikaru was moving.  He struggled to accept that Hikaru’s dominant personality meant something different than his ex-boyfriend’s domineering one.  I loved that Hikaru showed a patience that was not easy for him.  He wanted to protect James but understood that failing to allow James the space to choose could cost him a future with the man who has stolen his heart.  I thought Ms. Medina did a wonderful job of showing the struggles of both men.  James had to learn to trust not only Hikaru but himself as well.  Hikaru had to learn a different type of patience.  I had never read Marie Medina prior to this story but I enjoyed her point of view.  With Kiss at Dawn I found a story that showcased a story full of emotional depth and character growth.  This will not be the last time I jump into a world she crafts.
